As the campus community races to the Higher Learning Commission site visit next week, here is a review of key themes and information to keep in mind to prepare.
Site Visit
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Site Visit will be Feb. 25-27.
The site visit team is lead by Michael Westerfield, Ph.D., vice-president and dean of the Graduate College at William Woods University, Fulton, MO. The team also includes:
• Dale Beatty, Ph.D., assistant dean, enrollment and student services in the College of Pharmacy, Roosevelt University, Schaumberg, IL
• Tami Joann Eggleston, Ph.D., associate dean and professor of psychology, McKendree University, Lebanon, IL
• Scott Flanagan, executive vice-president, Edgewood College, Madison, WI
• Frank Pascoe, Ph.D., provost, University of St. Francis, Joliet, IL
• Sister Diana Paula Stano, OSU, president, Ursuline College, Pepper Pike, OH
The Reflective U process
The University’s HLC Steering Committee has called the process of researching and creating the self-study, “The Reflective U.” The self-study is an opportunity for the campus community to engage in a reflective process on the mission and how the institution is evolving from a College to University.
The University's theme for the HLC self-study is "From College to University: Eight Directions to Five Destinations in 10 Years." The foundation for the self-study is the 2020 Vision Strategic Plan, itself a document that describes College's past (who we have been) and charts the course to the University's future (who we will become).
The theme of “evolution” crystallizes all aspects of the strategic plan into a coherent self-study, illustrates how the strategic plan meets the five HLC criteria, explains the strategic plan and how the eight strategic directions lead the University towards the five destination metrics.
Resources to prepare
It is essential for everyone to read the self-study’s executive summary and those chapters that pertain to the work each member does. The self-study can be downloaded from the University’s Accreditation page.
Reviewing the University’s 2020 Vision Strategic Plan is also recommended.
