St. Catherine University Dean of Students and HLC Steering Committee member Curt Galloway spearheaded a team effort across the entire student affairs division to bring greater understanding of accreditation to both staff and students.
Galloway has discussed accreditation with multiple student affairs departments, including residence life staff and students, student club and organization leaders, advisory boards and the Parent and Family Association.
At a divisional staff meeting Tues., Feb. 12, Galloway joined Multicultural and International Programs and Services (MIPS) Director Donna Hauer, O'Neill Center for Academic Development Director Thelma Obah, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Brian Bruess in a HLC-related presentation and discussion.
The focus was on site visit preparation, but also included discussions about departmental and individual contributions to the student experience. Approximately 110 Student Affairs, Enrollment Management and IT staff (both exempt and non-exempt) from both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses participated.
On the Minneapolis campus, Galloway was joined by Program Director for the Liberal Arts and Sciences Department and fellow HLC Steering Committee member Paul Buttenhoff in an accreditation discussion with Minneapolis Advisory Board (MAB) students in preparation for the site visit.
Also on the Minneapolis campus, Galloway, Buttenhoff and Interim Assistant Dean of Students Shvonne Johnson staffed an information table in the Minneapolis deli and engaged students, faculty and staff to "Take the HLC Challenge.” More than 60 students completed the "Challenge” while many more discussed the University’s history, mission and vision with the trio.
In addition, students on The St. Kate’s Activities Team (SKAT) created a “HLC Prize Patrol.” Donning flashy gold sashes, they roamed campus and intercepted students on their way to class to ask HLC challenge questions and give away HLC branded lip balms to students to spark their awareness about the importance of accreditation.
